The Border Security Force (BSF) has nabbed three smugglers, including two women, with gold ornaments worth over one crore along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
The BSF issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon revealing that on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, three passengers were entering India from the Bangladesh border at Petrapole, the border post in North 24 Parganas district, and they already had information about having gold.
The BSF jawans searched the passengers with a metal detector, and upon detecting a beep sound, both the women and the man were searched, and it was discovered that all three had hidden gold ornaments inside their clothes. The gold ornaments weighed 1.789 kg, and their estimated value is Rs. 1 crore 7 lakh 37 thousand 349.
The women have been identified as Shubhechcha Biswas and Pampa Khan, while the name of the male smuggler is Sovan Khan, and all three are residents of South 24 Parganas. The smugglers had planned to hand over the jewellery to Lucky Biswas, a resident of Howrah.
The BSF jawans have intensified their search, and the arrested smugglers have been handed over to the Customs Department Petrapole, along with the gold ornaments.
